Smokescreen Project
Production of the Smoke Screen ads, Documentary, Resource Guide and this web site have been made possible by a financial contribution from the Tobacco Control Programme, Health Canada.
Smoke Screen has been designed and delivered by The Access to Media Education Society (AMES).
AMES is a registered non-profit dedicated to helping people cultivate individual, group and mass communications skills. Since our inception in 1996, over 350 socially and economically disenfranchised youth have created a total of 150 short films, videos, public service announcements (PSAs) during our programs.
AMES is essentially about helping youth people who are marginalized by mainstream society and mainstream media to acquire the skills and confidence to go behind the camera and take centre-stage.
The Gulf Islands Film and Television School (GIFTS) is a unique hands-on residential media training centre nestled in the rainforest of Galiano Island, BC, Canada. Throughout the spring, summer and fall, they offer intensive workshops and programs in most aspects of filmmaking for teens and adults, including media educators.
